Messages for Peace | Flower release

SOUND/ACTION/REMEMBRANCE commemorates the 80th anniversary of the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki with an evening of story and performance. Please join us as we come together to share a moment dedicated to peace, the arts and community.

Sound: Composer Leilehua Lanzilotti will lead us through beyond the accident of time, written in honor of the unfinished sculpture Bell Tower for Hiroshima by Isamu Noguchi.

Action: The piece invites the audience to participate in “taking ownership for sound/action/remembrance” as we construct an imaginary bell tower. Lanzilotti will guide us in striking bells and vocalizing to bring together community of all ages.

Remembrance: Cultural exchange is essential in cultivating peace. We’re bringing kaiāulu together for an evening that will include music, readings and history as we remember the tragic bombings of two cities and chart a path forward.

Bring a bell or other resonant object along with a striker to join us in marking time, honoring our naʻau and listening to the beauty of our community. Please bring a blanket or chair to make yourself comfortable.
