Mission

The Lōʻihi Arts Foundation centers its work on supporting artists living in Hawaiʻi–with a special focus on kanaka maoli and kamaʻāina. Our residency offers space to create, reflect and explore one’s place in the world through art. Gatherings that weave together community, artists and cultural practitioners deepen that journey.

Gatherings

The exchange of ideas, stories and creative practices is a powerful force for bringing community together. Our gatherings are designed to welcome both emerging and established artists, offering space for diverse perspectives and dialogues to be shared with the broader community. While much of an artist’s work unfolds in solitude, sharing that work is vital—not only to expand the creative process, but also to give back to peers and kaiāulu. This visibility forms a bridge between artist and community, making space for expression while inviting deep conversation, inspiration and collective reflection.

Artist Residencies

Many artists here in Hawaiʻi live intergenerationally, The Lōʻihi Arts Foundation offers artist residency stays at a private space in Kailua. Residencies can last from two weeks to three months. The Lōʻihi Arts Foundation will provide a one bedroom apartment complete with a full kitchen and work area. We’re excited to offer an opportunity for artists to spread out and dig into their work, free from the constraints of having to share space. We partner with our artists to find space to exhibit their work, lead a workshop, hold a reading or performance. Artists in all genres are encouraged to apply.
